Chahan is the Japanese version of the familiar Chinese egg fried rice we know of from home or the visits we’ve made to our local restaurant. The difference between chahan and Chinese egg fried rice comes from the type of rice that is being used and also the additional toppings which are used.
In Japan, chahan is commonly served with pickled ginger and seaweed. It is usually made as a side dish in izakayas or Chinese-style restaurants. It is a very filling meal with various toppings which typically include peas, carrots, sweetcorn, char siu (roasted pork).
